In northeastern Morocco, the port of Nador is built on the Mediterranean coast and on the Bhar Amezzyan lagoon. It is part of the Eastern Rif region. Historically, the town of Nador had a small port in the Marchica lagoon built in 1924, which allowed an import-export activity. Launched between 1974 and 1975, the construction of the deep-sea port of Nador focused mainly on serving the Oriental region (of which it is the main outlet) and the Nador steel complex (Sonasid-Seferif). In 1978, the management of the port was entrusted to the Autonomous Authority of the Port of Casablanca (RAPC). It is today the second biggest port of Morocco and knows a very fast development, in particular in the traffic of the passengers. Many ferry companies are represented, connecting Nador to Spanish cities such as Melilla (the enclave of Melilla is also accessible by the N15), Almeria, Motril and Barcelona, as well as Sète, France.
13 km from the port, the city of Nador, in full economic boom, gradually opens to tourism with the establishment of a seaside resort called "Mar Chica". Many sites are to be seen like the Cherrana and its lighthouse, the market, the mosques, the beaches and the cape of the three forks, one of the most beautiful sites of Morocco.
