Presentation

The port of La Goulette is located in the western basin of the Mediterranean, northeastern Tunisia. Until the mid-eighties, this port was responsible for most of the country's maritime trade. Since its opening to international trade in 1987, the port of La Goulette has specialized in the treatment of passenger and cruise ship traffic. The ferry port of Tunis serves the port of Marseille in France and Italian ports such as Civitavecchia, Genoa and Salerno, as well as Palermo in Sicily. Around the port, are the best seafood restaurants and, about 13 km, Tunis, the economic and commercial capital of the country offers a harmonious architecture that mixes two distinct cultures: the French boulevards of the nineteenth century and their Western shops and the traditional Arab neighborhoods of the 13th century. About fifteen kilometers from Tunis, the ruins of Carthage are worth a visit. The Phoenician city which was rebuilt by Julius Caesar and Augustus to become the 3rd largest city of the Roman Empire is a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
