Sète is not only famous for being the second port of France in the Mediterranean after Marseille, but also for its characteristic channels that gave it the nickname "Venice of Languedoc". Located 31 km from Montpellier, the port of Sète has traditionally developed from west to east. Its history is a reflection of the economic and social life of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. In 1666, the first stone of Môle Saint Louis was laid, following the will of Louis XIV to create an export port for Languedoc products.

The creation of the harbor protection dyke, 650 m long, marks the birth of the port of Sète. In 2015, the Orsetti ferry terminal welcomed around 180,000 passengers. As a result, the Port Management Region has launched the rehabilitation and expansion of the passenger pole which will accommodate 3 ships at the same time and 300,000 passengers by 2020. From the port of the city of Sète, ferries join Nador, Tangier Med and Barcelona by regular lines.

Sète is about 30km from Montpellier. The port is easily accessible by the A9 motorway, the N112 and D2 national highways.

Sète by train:

The Sète train station is about 5 minutes north / west of the city center.
