The port of Bahía de Algesiras, in the province of Cadiz, is one of the main Spanish ports because of its geostrategic enclave, in the extreme south of Spain and at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates it from Morocco. Located at the crossroads of the main world shipping lanes, it presents an incessant movement of goods and passengers. The Algesiras ferry port offers many connections to Morocco (up to 58 Crossings per day) and provides a large passenger traffic (4.5 million per year) and vehicles (1 million) between Spain and the Morocco. Crossing the Strait of Gibraltar is operated by the largest ferry companies to Tangier Med and the Autonomous City of Ceuta. The city of Algesiras is located, by road, about 100 km from Cadiz and 180 km from Seville. It preserves from its medieval time (XIII-XIV centuries), the important Site of the Villa Nueva of Algeciras, flanked by its four towers, vestiges of the barbacana. Also worth seeing are the Meriníes Baths and Royal Baths of al-Binya in María Cristina Park. Part of the municipality is also in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, one of the largest parks in Andalusia, full of cork oaks and rivers. Its great ecological value deserves a visit.
